Cycli

Bicycle maintenance and specialty shop with an online store

Cycli is a tribute to cycling in all its forms. Since its establishment, the company has been committed to serving customers individually, friendly, and professionally with the support of the best suppliers and high-quality brands in the industry.

The bicycle shop Cycli, located in Seinäjoki, Vaasa, and Pori, began the search for a new e-commerce platform in early 2022. They were looking for an ERP system as well as an actual online store. After a comprehensive survey, the new solution was decided to be built using Tehden’s ERP system in combination with a Shopify online store provided by Dyme.

Tehden’s ERP system is a comprehensive solution used in several industries. From Tehden’s services, Cycli chose warehouse management and services supporting fast point-of-sale transactions, as well as the Avoinna24 service for booking service appointments. A significant choice was to set up separate instances of Tehden’s ERP system for the Seinäjoki, Vaasa, and Pori branches. This allowed each branch to operate independently and clarified the financial transactions between the offices.

Dyme’s role was to implement the Shopify online store and integrations between the online store and three Tehden ERP systems. At the beginning of the project, planning was done collaboratively between Cycli, Tehden, and Dyme. The result of the planning phase was a technical implementation plan and a roadmap for integrating the Shopify online store with Tehden’s ERP systems into a unified whole. Plans were also made to transfer users, product information, and inventory levels from the old online store to the new one.

The implementation of the Shopify online store went smoothly, and the site’s design was quickly adapted to fit Cycli’s brand. The main work focused on integration, which had to be built between the online store and three separate ERP systems. In the planning phase, it was decided to build the integration on an event-driven architecture because the operation of the online store is based on stimuli made by customers during the purchasing process. The event-driven architecture was implemented using AWS serverless services, as they scale resources and costs according to usage. This is particularly suitable for an online store, which has sporadic activity and times when the service is not used at all. Conversely, during peak seasons, the load can be high for short periods, requiring additional resources. A fully serverless-based system addresses both of these issues.

The online store was launched in early 2023, and since then, the customer experience has been improved, for example, by offering the option to purchase a company bicycle directly from the online store. Additionally, Cycli’s operations have been streamlined by automating the product return process. There is still room for improvement, and the future is full of plans to build Finland’s best bicycle online store.

"Good guys!"
